Here are some new favorites and wishlist items I’ve discovered to make my future beach and sailing adventures more comfortable, safe, efficient and stylish. These also make great gifts for the traveler in your life or treat yourself!

Drybags: Great for transitions on and off ships, beach landings, and keeping things dry on scuba, snorkeling, and other water-based activities. I prefer backpacks but a good duffel and even a bum bag can come in handy.

Anti-Fog Snorkel Set: highly recommend investing in an anti-fog glass snorkel mask. There’s nothing like being on a coral reef teeming with life and not being able to see what’s in front of you due to fogging. If you have long hair go the extra step and get a cover for the mask strap to stop tangles.

Water shoes: When I pack them I’m always thankful and the times I forget I really miss them. They are great for water activities where you may need to walk in water with rocky bottoms or pebbly beaches.

Reef Safe Sunscreen: Some places have banned the use of sunscreens containing the UV filters oxybenzone and octinoxate due to their harm on reefs and sea life. No product has been proven completely safe for marine life but there are a few that are friendlier than others.
The best: Thinksport SPF 50+ Mineral Sunscreen and Hello Bello Mineral Baby Sunscreen, SPF 50+

Rashguards and Protective Clothing: the best choice for coral as well as for your skin is wearing a rash guard or other protective clothing while enjoying water-based activities.

Extra Large Water Resistant Tote: Keep towels and clothes dry and sand-free with an extra-large tote that’s lined to also resist water.

Portable Solar Charge for Devices: This comes in very handy when you’re on the go, but also when there are limited outlets for charging on sailboats. Here are a couple of options and one is even waterproof.

Water Resistant Floating Wallet: Keep your cards, cash, and ID dry with a floating waterproof wallet. I have two from Chums and love the bright colors and design options.
