The slot canyons of Page, Arizona are a natural wonder worth checking out if you’re heading to Las Vegas or Phoenix and have time for a day or overnight trip. They’re a bit of a long drive to visit but the colors and scenery are well worth the trek.
For my trip to Page, I stayed in Sedona to see the mountains and plateaus they’re famous for and drove three hours each way to see the slot canyons and Horse Shoe Bend near Page. It was November and temperatures were 30-50 during the day. In the sun it was warm but lightly snowing as we drove back to Sedona. Also be sure to wear close toed shoes as there’s a lot of walking around and terrain goes from rocky to dusty.
There are several options for slot canyons to visit. Doing some research I decided to skip the well known upper and lower Antelope Canyons and booked a small tour of Horse Shoe Bend and Horse Shoe Bend Slot Canyon. This was a great decision as we pretty much had the slot canyons to ourselves.
Horse Shoe Bend was of course very crowded and I had a lot of anxiety trying to get a good view with so many people milling about and trying to take selfies. Would recommend going early in the day to avoid crowds.
Check out my separate post on Sedona and it’s stellar collection of buttes and plateaus surrounding the valley.
If you have longer than a day to spend in Page and the weather is warm you can also take a boat tour of Lake Powell.
